Auberi Zwickel (they/she) is a graphic artist and designer currently living and working in Los Angeles, CA. Their practice consists of slow, intuitive drawings made directly with pen on paper, and they are passionate about drawing as a personal language, ritual practice and form of deep play. Their highly stylized work draws upon a wide range of influences including contemporary comics, international folk art, puppets, and decorative arts traditions. Some of the recurring themes that run through their work include magic and devotion, queer femininity and the body, life cycles, and human-nonhuman relationships. They are currently learning the craft of tattooing, while making large drawings and textiles in their studio in Los Angeles.
Auberi earned their BA in Studio Art from Loyola Marymount University in 2014 with a concentration in drawing and printmaking. They earned their MFA in Studio Art from Arizona State University and graduated in Spring 2023, culminating in their thesis show Worm Eats Bird.
Auberi’s work has been exhibited at the Hive Gallery & Studios, PSKaufman, and the Brand Library in Los Angeles, and at Step Gallery, Raiz Gallery and The Gallery at Mountain Shadows in Phoenix, AZ.
